My unexpected birthday celebration

I usually have a nice birthday celebration with all my friends every year. However, this year, I came back from an extremely long trip and was just too exhausted mentally and physically to consider celebrating my birthday. Feeling superbly homesick, all I wanted to do was stay home and spend time with my family and my dogs!

But even though I said I’ll be keeping my birthday low key, my dearest family and sweetest friends still managed to surprise me and did mini little celebrations for me whenever they saw me. I’m really grateful and though I may not list everyone’s celebration or photos on this post, I still do value very much every little thing each and everyone of my close ones have done for me.

My parents surprised me with a yummy durian cake! Usually I’m the one baking durian cakes for my family so it’s a nice feeling to be able to sit back and enjoy. They hid it in the fridge the whole day and I didn’t suspect a thing! They kept bugging me to go take a shower and when I came out, all the lights were dimmed and they were waiting for me with the birthday cake and a happy birthday serenade to match!

My parents are so very adorable! In the afternoon when they came over, my mum asked me if I could pour her a cup of cold water. Just before I was about to open the fridge door, she hurriedly said she wanted a hot cup of tea instead. LOL! It wasn’t until I was surprised with the cake that I realized why she so oddly changed her mind!

Another birthday meetup was at Arbite! Regina, JW and Koji had a fun, casual dinner with me. Jolene couldn’t make it due to a personal commitment but I still received her well-wishes and gift together with the rest!

I had the chicken with rice and it was pretty good! So was the mushroom soup! Koji even surprised me with the cutest cake! It was in the shape of a puppy maltese!

I had a hard time deciding how I was going to cut this totally adorable cake! Along with it were very pretty tiny mini cakes cause Koji remembered me having mini cake for my birthday last year as well. I insisted that they could only put 1 candle cause I’m getting too old to be able to find space to put up all the candles!

There they sung me my 2nd Happy Birthday song which would have been more embarrassing if it wasn’t just our little group and the staff at the restaurant.

See the awesome rainbow colored cupcake above? Well Sushi baked it for me for my birthday! She so very sweet! It even has my name on spelt out on the cupcakes! Looking at the multicolors makes me so happy!

A couple of months back I wanted to get a pair of driving glasses because I’ve got pretty bad astigmatism ( my eye doesn’t allow light to be focused properly). I’m not nearsighted so I function pretty well without any aid in the day but night driving can be a challenge if it’s rainy and I can’t focus on details properly.

Anyways, I told Sushi that I intended to buy geeky frames so she bought me this Chanel ones for my birthday! She bought it months ago and in the meantime (since I was away) I had unknowingly, bought a pair of Anna Sui geeky spectacles so after I get the  lenses for the Chanel spectacles fixed, I’ll have 2 pairs to choose from!

Met up with Melva as well for a tea snack and she passed me her super ‘blinged’ up pressent. She gave me a super kawaii ice-cream set to add to my ever-growing collection of dining ware! Yes, I like collecting kitschy, sweet and fun kitchen and dining ware 🙂 Together with the cupcake stand that Audrey gave me for my birthday, it’ll make the perfect afternoon dessert set!

I could probably post a couple more photos about my birthday and the presents I received but I think you get the gist of my unexpected birthday celebrations. Just lots of small mini meetups with my girl friends (and a guy friend or two) throughout the week. Thank you so much for all the love and for making me feel engulfed in warmth when I’m back in Singapore. I love you all!
