LG Optimus 4X

A couple of years back, I worked with LG Mobile Asia on their Optimus One Campaign. (View here) And now, again, I’m really honored to be able to try out their new LG Optimus 4x before it’s officially launched for sale in Singapore this Saturday 28th July 2012!

I headed down to the huge LG store at Marina Bay Sands to learn more about the phone at the beginning of this week. You can view any LG products in this store. From F1 cars to 3D Smart TVs to home appliances and mobile phones! It was in the TV viewing room that we got the technical details of the LG Optimus 4x mobile explained to the selected bloggers over some chocolates and water.

LG Optimus 4X is one of the leading android smart phones to invade the market this year and it comes with incredible technical specs to rival their competitors phones.

This is the first Quad-Core smartphone that LG has released. Leveraging on a combination of NVIDIA’s 4-PLUS-1 Quad-Core mobile processor,Tegra3 and the LG Optimus 3.0 UI, the LG Optimus 4X HD delivers unparalleled speed and a unique user experience.

The photo that you see above gives a clear overview of the technical specs between the 3 very popular android smartphones in the market now. LG surpasses it’s competition on quite a few categories and I particularly like how it has a detachable battery and upgradable RAM. I rather have a phone where I can buy multiple batteries at a low price ($30 to $45) then to carry one with built in battery and have to buy an external battery charger. It also means that if the battery gets faulty in the long run, I can easily replace it myself and save the phone a trip to the service center.

Currently LG Optimus 4X is also the mobile with a 2,150mAh battery which is the largest among Quad-Core smartphones to hone a greater charge without adding bulk. This is wonderful for heavy users like me who rely on my phone for emails, instagram, twitter, Facebook and other apps on a daily basis.

The 4.7 inch True HD IPS display in the LG Optimus 4X offers a superior high -clarity viewing experiences of 1280 X 720 pixels. Additionally, the 16:9 ratio allows for wider and more complete viewing, and the device’s high pixel density of 313ppi and stripe RGB IPS Panel offer sharper and crisper text. There are many smartphones out there that lets you take a very high resolution photo, but when you zoom in, you’ll still see a lot of noise as the screens have a lower pixel density. I love how LG Optimus 4X recognizes this issue. Since LG supplies the technology for their display panel to Apple, you can pretty much expect that the quality of the display is pretty high.

During the session, the boys decided to whip out their various smartphone from various brands to compare the picture and color quality and verify that LG Optimus 4X delivers the most accurate color. Eunice became the impromptu model. Another interesting function to note is that this phone has a Time Catch Shot that will take shots 2 secs before the camera button is pressed and then choose the best shot to save. It’s amazing and wonderful for taking photos of kids and pets because they never stay still and so very often, by the time we press the button, the magical moment is lost. I can see great potential in this function for mothers particularly!

Comes in black and white ( I chose the white!) and I love how slim, sleek and premium the whole design is. The material used and the clean lines makes this phone very much a luxury phone similar to other LG premium phones like the LG Prada phone.

The first 2,000 to buy this phone this weekend would also get a limited edition accessories pack that contains, a leather casing, stylus pen and an A.C Ryan portable battery charger so it pays to be an early bird when buying this phone!

I’ve been using and testing this phone for about 3 to 4 days now and so far it’s been a really pleasant user experience. I love the size, the feel, and the functions are all so easy to navigate. Quick Memo function of this phone allows me to instantly jot memos or nots from any screen and I’m able to write on and screen shots and upload it directly to FB, twitter, whatsapp, gmail or any other social apps. Super duper useful!!!!

I’ve personalized my phone with a sweet girl theme and a beautiful dust cover! I absolutely love how this phone can look so pretty and girly on the outside yet packs a mean punch with a the latest technology offerings!

Since it uses normal SIM card instead of micro-SIM, and if you are a Iphone user like I am, then a simple and cheap adaptor card is all you need for your micro-SIM to fit perfectly with the LG Optimus 4X.

Video playback is awesome with fingertip seek and live zooming. Yes! You can actually zoom in while the video is playing. I believe this is the first for any mobile phones! Other fanciful functions includes a wide range of choice when it comes to unlocking your phone. You can choose to slide, use pattern recognition, use pin number, use password or use face recognition! The face recognition is really quite fun and give sci-fi element to the phone but it’s not as “safe” as the other unlocking functions cause anyone with a photo of your face can actually unlock the phone as well! LOL

I took tons of photos with the phone cause I think it’s soooooooo pretty and fantastically light without compromising on performance. But as with anything, photos and words can only show so much. So I’ve put together an unboxing video to share all the features of the phone with those who are looking out for a smartphone. Louis and Emmie (my doggies) did the unboxing and used the phone before I did! Watch the video to understand more about what I mean.
