French Dinners

This is going to be my last entry for Paris for now. There’s a lot more to Paris but for now it’s time to move on. And because so many of you have asked me about French food since my last post on Desserts in Paris, this post will be all about restaurants in the city of lights.

Here are my choices. Having a really good full course dinner in Paris isn’t always cheap but it’s usually really good. So if you are on budget, just pick one or two and save the rest for your next visit! It’s always a good idea to call for reservations early. The list is in no particular order.

Restaurant Lasserre ( 17, Avenue Franklin-Roosevelt. Tel. : +33 (0) 1 43 59 02 13) – A gastronomic experience not to be missed! Located close to the Champs Elysées, this is a 2 Michelin star restaurant. The first floor dining has a spectacular clear roof with views of the sky.

Restaurant Du Palais-Royal ( 110 Galerie Valois. Tel:+33 (0)1 40 20 00 27) – A lovely romantic dinner would be perfect here. If you can and the weather is good, try to reserve a seat on the summer terrace with view overlooking the gardens of Louvre.  The menu changes seasonally so there’s always something new.

L’Ambrosie (9, Palace des Vosges. Tel: (+33 (0)1 42 78 5145) – Very early reservations are needed for this 3 star Michelin restaurant. The restaurant to see and be seen at. Only 40 seats a night located in a 17th-century town house, the decor resembles an Italian palazzo. Reserve this for the really special occasions or if you are food critic and want to try one of the best.

Taillevent  ( 15 Rue Lamennais. Tel:+33 (0)1 44 95 15 01) – Extremely good food and extremely good service without having to ever feel out of place even if fine dining is not your usual thing. If you want a more intimate dinner, get a table in the front room but if you like to be in a lively and social environment, you can ask to for a table in the back room.

L’espadon (15, place Vendôme. Tel: +33 (0) 1 43 16 30 80) – Located in the very fancy 5 star Riz hotel in the middle of Paris! I love the location and it’s great food, great ambiance  and their service is always perfect! You get priority booking if you stay in the hotel. So if you do stay there or around the area! Do try this place! I heard that it’s now a 2 Micheline star restaurant.

Le Chateaubriand ( 129 Avenue Parmentier. Tel: +33 (0) 1 4357 4595) – Classy food in a very laid back environment. A five course prix fixe menu changes daily and it focuses on a combination of food tastes with as little cooking as possible so you can get a more pure and organic taste. One of the cheaper places for fine dining.

Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenée (25 Avenue Montaigne. Tel: +33 (0) 1 53 67 6665) – It’s basically what you see in those classic extravagant French movies! Gorgeous chandeliers, beautiful table settings and neat and prim waiters in uniform. If you want a taste of luxury, this is it.

While I listed all my personal best restaurants in Paris, given the exorbitant prices, those can only be one off dinners or lunches in my trips or for very special occasions.  I’m glad to report that most of the 5 course or 7 course dinners I tried in random French restaurants in Paris hasn’t disappointed me either.

I had a video that I submitted to LG- Life’s Good Campaign Week 3 showing my greedy little face eating non-stop in one sitting! It’s really unhealthy to binge but I console myself that it’s not everyday that I’m in Paris! If you haven’t watched it yet, here’s the youtube link and the video clip is below.
