Morganfield's Restaurant at Star Vista

Sometime ago I was invited for a food tasting party at Moganfield’s Restaurant at Star Vista.  I was told that it was an American restaurant that has one of the best ribs around so I had to try it for myself.

It’s pretty hard to miss the restaurant as it’s located at a prime location in Star Vista Mall. Even on a weekday night, the place was pretty packed which is a good sign.

I love the cool friendly vibe of the restaurant that instantly puts you at ease. It’s fun, casual and a great place for friends to chill out together.

The menu at Morganfield’s is pretty extensive with tons of selections. I don’t even think 7 or 8 trips are enough to try out all the choices.

First up were some drinks as recommended by the Morganfield’s staff.  The Strawberry Sunset was a refreshing mix of strawberry, apple and mango while the Expresso Mudslide had shots of expresso blended with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate syrup.

The lobster bisque was a hot favorite among many bloggers that night. I generally stay away from shellfish so I went for the homemade mushroom soup instead. It was lovely to be able to taste the chunky mushroom in a soup that has the delicious ‘cooked from scratch’ taste.

Although the Smokehouse Club Salad is their on their chef’s recommended salads, we were game to try one of their newer dishes – The Summer Salad.  It contained watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes, mix lettuce, Kalamata olives, Manzanlilla olives, feta cheese and sun dried tomatoes. The Summer Salad also comes with a minty and fresh summer dressing that compliments well with the salad mix.

My personal favorite dish at Morganfield’s restaurant is actually their Pop Corn Pork. It’s a must try! The pork cubes are specially marinated with Morganfield’s secret spice mix then deep fried till crisp. I think I love this dish because it tastes a little similar to my mum’s homemade pork chops. But this one is served with BBQ ranch sauce and homemade garlic aioli sauce.

If you have friends in your company that would prefer a vegetarian option, they can always try the grilled vegetable sandwich which is pretty yummy. Grilled peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, cheddar, feta cheese and a sun dried tomato spread makes a lovely combination. I really liked the crispy grilled Panini bread to bring all the flavors together.

At this point, the hosts at Morganfield’s decided that we should take a break from our meal to participate in a little friendly competition. 6 girls gamely volunteered themselves for a mini rib eating competition.

It was fun watching them accumulate as many clean rib bones as possible while the clock ticked. Luckily, the ribs were really tender so it was easy to eat. I didn’t join but I happily cheered the teams on.

After that exciting segment, I was ready to tuck into their famous sticky bone ribs. Morganfield’s provides bibs which are great for messy eaters like me. Call it Murphy’s Law but I always tend to stain my top whenever I’m wearing white and less so when I’m in dark colors.

Just before the rib platters came out, I realized we also had a pan fried sea bass on the table and I busied myself with this gorgeous catch from the sea and topped with tantalizing hollandaise sauce. At this time, they brought out the rib platter and my jaws literally dropped uncontrollably at the sight of the humongous platter! Just check out the candid shot of me below.

The family styled platters are recommended for 2 to 3 pax but I would highly recommend it sharing among 3 to 4 pax instead.

There are a total of 3 different types of sharing platters.

Morgan Rib Platter – Choice of any 3 half slabs of Morganfield’s signature Sticky Bones flavours (Hickory BBQ, Tuscan Baked Spicy, Smoked Peppercorn or Garlic BBQ), grilled sausages, garden salad, corn on cob, corn bread and french fries.

The Carnivore – Choice of any full slab of Morganfield’s signature Sticky Bones flavours (Hickory BBQ, Tuscan Baked Spicy, Smoked Peppercorn or Garlic BBQ), choice of any half roasted chicken (Herb Roasted, Tequila Spiked, Honey Stung or BBQ), grilled sausages, garden salad, corn on cob, corn bread and french fries.

Ocean Feast –  Choice of any full slab of Morganfield’s signature Sticky Bones flavours (Hickory BBQ, Tuscan Baked Spicy, Smoked Peppercorn or Garlic BBQ), Beer Battered Fish Fillets, Tequila Grilled Prawns, grilled sausages, garden salad, corn on cob, corn bread and french fries.

The food here is so sinful and delicious at the same time. The ribs are tender and taste better than most. Comparing to the flavors that I’ve tried in the US, I’d say these ribs are pretty true to the American hickory BBQ flavors. The prime ribs have been slow-cooked and smoked in coal and hickory wood resulting in nice tender meat that glides off the bones with just a gentle tug.

To sweeten the deal even more, with every platter that you order to share at Morganfield’s, you’ll get a free chocolate lava cake!

I always have a separate stomach for desserts and even though I was completely stuffed that day, I still managed to eat half of this warm chocolate cake that contains a rich molten chocolate core. The vanilla ice-cream and caramel sauce made this dessert just perfect.

Thank you Morganfield’s for the invite. It was a delightful night sampling all the American food that I miss dearly, especially the corn bread. I had lots of fun catching up with some of my blogger friends that night as well. Morganfield’s is a great place for family and groups of friend who want a warm cozy atmosphere with good American food.
