Tucked in a cozy little corner of Tanjong Katong is Minoriya Japanese Restaurant. I wish I had known this gem of a place earlier cause I love ala cart buffets! The flexibility of a wide range of dishes without having to get up from your seat as it’ll be served to you. According to the owner, Stanley Tan, they only prepare the food upon receiving the customer’s order so you can assure that it’s fresh and not simply laid out in the kitchen waiting to be microwaved!
I had the privilege of popping into the back counter to watch the master chef at work. Learning all about the different ways to cut sashimi was an eye-opener! Watching a master chef cut and plate his sashimi is like watching an artist painting. It’s mesmerizing and the final result wows you. An interesting fact I picked up was that sashimi is plated in alternating red and white meats as it is traditionally required by the Japanese Emperor.
Eunice, Olivier and Daniel (Radio DJ at FM1003) all nodded in consensus at the delicious food! My personal favorites that night were the grilled pork belly with garlic, the chicken meatballs yakitori (tuskuni tare) and the grilled shitake. Another must try is the beef in special sauce! It was so tender and the sauce was sumptuous! There’s so much more on the menu I’ve yet to try – 90 dishes in all to be exact. So I’ll definitely have to pop by down again. The all you can eat ala cart buffet is only SGD29++ for lunch and SGD33++ for dinner.
