I was invited down to G-Factory to get to know more about Casio and their wide range of watches. I’m sure most of us must have owned a Casio or two (or a dozen) at one point or another but I really got an eye-opening experience of the multitude of choices that they really offer.
All the invited bloggers were treated to a wealth of information about Casio and their watches which was great! Among lots of donuts & drinks, they even had a Q & A session where additional gifts were given out. So it pays to pay attention.
While the mini donuts were appetizing, they were not the main attraction. The watches are of course in the spotlight! Casio has 5 main range of watches. G-Shock, Baby-G, Edifice, Protrek and Sheen. I grew up with G-shock and Baby-G ( I’m sure most of the 80s and 90s babies did) but the watches have evolved so much so there was much to learn!
Just looking at the colors and choices of watches was exciting and I naturally started planning what outfits each watch could go with and I could go on and on and on! The G-Shock watches had so many functions so there were tons of sporty designs. However, I noticed that there were also “executive styles” in the G-shock range that could easily take you from the office to an after office hours workout.
I was looking to buy a present for a pilot so I was looking out for the new G-SHOCK watch that comes with “Smart Access,” that makes operating the watch’s functions smoother than ever with an electronic crown switch and five-motor drive. It offers a wide range of functions that are especially practical for pilots.
With the intuitive method of turning the crown switch, the wearer can select the time in different cities around the world. In addition, with just a simple press of the switch, the wearer can switch between home time and world time, or instantly display Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Features like these ensure the time information pilots need is only a touch away. The watch face is designed to look like a cockpit instrument.
The wide range of features, including a “fly-back” function that allows the stopwatch to be instantly reset and start during operation as well as an instant temperature display at the press of a button. As if the number of functions is not enough to wow, the watch is also solar-powered and radio-controlled, with automatic time calibration using standard radio waves from six transmitters around the world.
Amazing right? The more amazing thing is that the price is a lot more comfortable to my pockets than some of the other “pilot watches” out in the market. Of course G-shock watches cater to other users as well, be it diving, running, surfing or just for casual fun, there’s one for everyone.
If I were to go for a sporty watch however, Baby-G would be my choice. I’ve owned quite a few growing up so there is some nostalgia in the choice. I love that the watch faces are smaller and are geared towards more dainty girls.
The tough, cute and cool look is a winner for most girls which also explains why Girls Generation is the newest ambassadors of Baby-G watches in Asia! Girls’ Generation is the ideal match for the Baby-G brand, with the group’s adaptable yet tough, active image and sporty, healthy beauty, topped by the individuality of each of the nine members’ fashionable lifestyles.
While G-SHOCK and Baby-G is mainly for the young (at heart), Casio also has range of watches for the more executive crowd. For the men (or women who like big watches), you may want to check out Edifice.
Edifice tag line is “Speed & Intelligence”. Which makes it a perfect pairing with official partner Redbull for the Formula 1 races! EDIFICE full-metal watches for men evokes a sense of velocity and motor-sports energy.
The next range is for the people that love the great outdoors! PROTREK watches are very popular, not only among climbing enthusiasts, but also leisure hikers and car campers. With solar power charging, compass bearing, atmospheric pressure/altitude and temperature among just some of the possible data you can procure from this range of watches, you can feel very safe and reassured when conquering mother nature.
The watches look so rugged and tough so I was amazed when I found out that PROTREK has a watch with an all-analog face, and it features three types of sensors that measure compass bearing, atmospheric pressure, altitude and temperature. It uses the hour, minute and second hands to indicate the sensor values and even allows you to set international time zones. The pure analog version (no pic0) doesn’t look like the typical rugged climbing watches and that’s also awesome!
I was instantaneously drawn to the Sheen collection. The whole collection was just perfect for me! Elegant, smart and shining, it’s everything I need a watch to be.
I fell in love with one of the watches in the Sheen collection.
Before I tried the watch on, I was told that the bracelets made from stain-resistant Fine Resin is very light. But very light was an understatement. It was amazingly feather weight light! Fine Resin is a type of polyamide resin that is strong and highly resistant to chemicals as well as discoloration caused by UV light. Unlike my ceramic strap watches, this will not crack when dropped.
Gorgeous isn’t it? All the SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS are set on the entire bezel together with my favorite rose gold. I really don’t think you can walk into a G-Factory and not find a watch that seems to be made just for you.
With the Great Singapore Sale still on till 22nd July, you know what’s on my shopping list!
Much thanks to OMY and Casio for showing me a wonderful time and patiently explaining to me the difference between the different watches. I am a Baby-G fan and I’m excited to have found a new series to love in Sheen.
Taken in front of the large G- Factory (did you know G stands for gravity?), I wore a vintage floral tube mid length dress which I bought from Dustbunny. I didn’t take close ups this time but I paired the pastel floral dress with a Chanel long necklace, strappy heels from Korea, YSL earrings and bag.
After the event I headed for a movie. More about that on the next post cause I realized that I gushed tooooo much about watches and this post is sooooooo long!
