Yarney Barney and ShiNyGirls

In my last post, I shared a little with you about what N.E.mation 7 was about and now I would like to introduce to you the 2 teams out of the top 10 teams that I will be following closely during this production phase. They are Yarney Barney and ShiNyGirls! Maybe it’s the luck of the draw but both teams are from Saint Nicholas Girls School! Yay IJ girls! I was one too!

I went down to the production area on the first day and already the teams were hard at work and really serious! Their first assignment is to figure out who is best suited for which job in the production process. Yarney Barney team’s concept revolve having to trace and draw images from actual videos of actors who were commissioned to act out their plot. Imagine tracing an entire video clip, frame by frame, to achieve a realistic type of drawing and to then fill in with details and colors! No wonder the girls were all down to business on their very first day!

Take a look at some of their character designs!

They had come well-prepared with lots of food and looked almost ready to camp there for the whole 3 weeks. This team of Secondary 2 girls had submitted their n.e.mation proposals for last year’s competition as well. However, last year they only made it to the top 100. This year as one of the top 10, they finally have a chance to put their ideas into action, fight for their spot to be the best n.e.mation team and win a trip to USA! I have a soft spot for people who try and try and try again because these are the people who will eventually succeed!

Good Luck to Delia, Theresa, Rachael and Sophia! Please support these awesome girls at #NE7C09, http://nemation.sg/facebook/top10/yarney-barney

The 2nd team I will also be cheering on for is ShiNyGirls!

ShiNyGirls ( Wenqi, Tianqi, Amberly and Winnie) are in Secondary 1 and it’s their first time joining N.E.mation.  One of the things I love about N.E.mation is that prior experience or knowledge in animation is not required as training in story creation and development, animation techniques and presentation skills will be provided for all the shortlisted teams. Through the learningjourney of the competition, student participants acquire Total Defence knowledge and gain useful skills that they can apply to future endeavours.

ShiNyGirls are a really bubbly and friendly bunch. The atmosphere is their tent on the first day is a relaxed cool vibe as they figure out who excels best in which role. I even managed to sneak in a small little get-to-know you session in the midst of their schedule. Their animation is based on a poem that Amberly wrote and will be drawing out the animation frame by frame as well.

I saw a quick 2 second clip of an animation they were practicing on and it took them an hour just to do that 2 second clip frame by frame. The amount of dedication needed is just impressive. It’s only the start of their journey but I’m excited to see their progress and animation already!

Please “like” and support ShiNyGirls at  #NE7C07, http://nemation.sg/facebook/top10/shinygirls/

If you are wondering about their name, they have SNG in capitals in their name to represent St. Nicholas Girls which is their school. How cute!
