Watsons Spring Beauty Report

It’s Watsons Beauty Day out again. A huge extravaganza of the latest in Watsons and the world of beauty. Despite being an age old brand, Watsons has always kept up with the times and brings in the trendiest beauty products in the market. They have gone through some slight revamped on the logos, images and colors which gives them a much fresher look.

I headed straight to the Watsons event almost immediately after I touched down into Singapore. Even though I was sort of jet lagged, the exciting promises of the newest beauty products brought life and excitement to me. There was just so much going on so I’ll just highlight a few of the new brands and products that caught my eyes.

I’m sure most beauty aficionados are no stranger to the DR. WU Brand. DR. WU Clinical Skincare is a line of highly effective skincare products from Taiwan developed with advanced patented technologies to target various problems in Asian skins. Based on 30 years of clinical experience and extensive skincare research, the founder Dr Ying-Ching Wu has created the technologically advanced skincare line so that patients can enjoy the same medical treatments just like having a doctor at home.

The latest star products in their arsenal is DR. WU’s Mandelic Acid Renewal System.This system rocked the Taiwan Beauty Industry with its dramatic results in improving skin’s clarity. Its key ingredient used in the system – Mandelic Acid has proven to be gentle enough for sensitive skin and now replaces AHA as a preferred ingredient in aesthetic treatments. I’m very excited to try this out and will give a more detailed report on it once I’ve tried it for a month on my skin.

In case you were wondering what Mandelic Acid was, it’s an acid derived from bitter almonds!

Next we have the popular Heroine Make from Japan.

Personally, their eyelash fixer is one of my must-have items. There are a few eyelash glues that I really like and this is one of them.

Of course they have a much wider range that just eyelash glue and I know for a fact that their BB creams and powders have been a huge hit with many asian girls. Their star product for this Spring is the Long & Curl Mascara which gives visible results to your lashes.

Being all Japanese and embracing the concept of being the heroine that gets the prince, Heroine Make even had a prince on standby for the girls that night!

In this series, I’ll probably pic the mineral BB cream to review in detail at a later date as a couple of my friends are keen to learn if all the hype about Heroine Make mineral BB is valid. So you can look out for a detailed review on this pretty soon.

An interesting new player in the Watsons beauty brand collection is Elite Model. I’m sure we’ve all hear of Elite Modeling Agency and they gorgeous super leggy models. Using their experiences with runways, shows and beautiful people, Elite Models now share their beauty secrets and technology. The products are geared towards giving you a glamourous runway finish to your makeup so you can be a supermodel in your own way.

They had quite a selection of makeup, bases and khol pencils but what caught my attention is the Elite Fantastic Primer.

I immediately fell in love with the texture of this. It’s non greasy and glides on so smoothly. It’s definitely on my list to review in depth and I hope it’ll withstand the challenges that I put up to it. It so happens that this is their star product as well.

If you are the party queen or just like to be different, a cool new range to check out is Rock Beauty from London. They have 2 main lines, Eye Rock and Nail Rock.

Nail wraps are crazily in trend because they offer unique designs, totally fuss free.  NAIL ROCK designer nail wrap range is designed to last up to 7 days on nails and 8 weeks on the toes, with each at home nail wrapping treatment taking just 15 minutes to apply. Unlike nail polish they won’t chip or stain the nail and quicker to apply as no drying time required. Choose to embellish your nails with a vast choice of styles which can’t be achieved with regular polish. Designs include metallic gold, silver, dots and animal print.

It’s the perfect solution if you need your nails done for a party but don’t have time to slide into a nail salon. The textures are amazing!

And if your party is really fancy and you need the extra oomph, you can try Eye Rock. Eye Rock Crystals are an instant glamour look. Easy to apply and ready to wear, these crystals give you make up artist results in seconds and a look that will rival any glitzty evening.

Spotted – Irene aka Moonberry being the face for the new Olay Regenerist series. She’s really a superb choice for the brand. My mother uses Olay and she has nothing but praises for it. With new ingredients and formulations, I can only expect them to do even better that they already have.

Their Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Relaxing Cream is said to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in just 1 application. A revolutionary wrinkle fighter, combining Olay moisture with advanced micro fillers, smoothens skin’s surface and relaxes the appearance of wrinkles instantly. Its formula with biopeptide + B3 complex also hydrates to reduce the appearance of even deep lines in 14 days. Sounds good to me! I’ll put this on my list of skincare to try after I’ve finished my current creams.

Those looking for lash care can try Avance Lash Serum Ex. Super duper popular in Japan, I’m so excited it’s finally available here because I’ve been wanting to try it for awhile now. I first read about it in Japanese magazines where they showed the results on Japanese girls but had to wait till my next trip to Japan to purchase it. I can’t believe it’s in Singapore now! I’m a huge fan of falsies but whenever I do decide to go au natural with my lashes, I always feel that it’s too short and too sparse. With this lash serum, I may once again have lust worthy lashes on those days that I’m too lazy to use falsies!

I’ll also try Avance Instant Remover for resistant and waterproof eye make up. Anything that will help ease the tugging an pulling on my eyes’ sensitive skin is a winner with me.

Other beloved Japanese products are these offerings from Shiseido. I’m currently using Senka Hoshitsu Lotion in the moisturizing step of my clean pore challenge with Hitachi Hada Crie Cool because it has the hydrating effect of creams with the texture of water jelly and leaves no stickiness! Super Love!

I’m still using Senka and will be doing so for another 4 weeks but I’m keen to try out the new Aqua label Royal Jelly series. The Royal Jelly series has been in Japan for at least 5-6 years and I can’t believe it took that long for them to make it available to the Singapore market. Better late then never though. Good things are always worth the wait.

So many beauty products to try! I’m getting giddy thinking about it!

Other than skincare, Watsons has Toni & Guy as their new series for haircare.

Live demonstrations with models show how easy it is to achieve so many different looks with Toni & Guy series of home care styling aids. Working with fashion designers, TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe gives both hair and fashion inspirations. Recreate this season’s catwalk & street-style looks with their 4 style collections: CASUAL, CLASSIC, GLAMOUR & CREATIVE.

Reviving Pure Beauty (which is Watsons “Made in Korea” in-house beauty brand), they focused on an antioxidant range using pomegranate. Pure beauty is an underdog in Watsons. It’s got great texture, price range and delivers quality skincare but doesn’t get enough attention because they generally don’t market themselves as hard as the other big brand names. If you want to try a cheaper but just as effective alternative to your antioxidant skincare, you really shouldn’t overlook giving Pure Beauty a shot.

Watsons thinks of beauty in a more than just topical creams and hair products but they also believe that beauty should be achieved from the inside. For those keen on shedding a few post-festivities pounds, the hottest brand for weight loss is Glow.

This FDA-approved weight loss aid called GLOW Raspberry Ketone diet pills has so many real-life faces to back their claims and I love how they also emphasis on a healthy diet and exercise beyond taking a pill.

I used to know Brands only for Chicken Essence which I would take before I pulled an all-nighter. But with it’s InnerShine series, Brands has a whole series of berries, grape seed extract, prune essence and marine collegen to help people realize a brighter, enriching and more beautiful future, by unlocking the inherent goodness within nature using modern science, research and technology.

Toasting to Watsons, I tried the Brand Berry Essence with Grape Seed Extract.  It contains four berries, namely blueberry, blackcurrant, chokeberry (aronia), and cranberry. These berries, rich in potent antioxidants and anthocyanins, are vital for protection of body tissues, including skin cells from oxidative and free radical damage such as UV radiation, pollution and other environmental factors. In addition, the added grape seed extract, which are rich in Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin Complexes (OPCs) that help strengthen collagen in the skin and prevent collagen and elastin1 degradation. This provides a two-prong approach in maintaining healthy and supple skin. OPCs also promote blood circulation to supply nutrients and oxygen to the skin for greater radiance. I’ll drink to that!
