Continuing on my 49 mile journey…
A nice little rest stop is Crissy Field…. the ex-military air field and US army post is now a very pretty park. Views of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz can be seen here. It’s a popular place for wind surfers and kite surfers.
Stop by the west side of Crissy Fields to The Warming Hut Cafe & Bookstore for a break! (temp closed till july) The pier just outside is rustic and pretty too!
Further up before reaching Fort Point or the Golden Gate itself… you’ll go pass a roman looking building called the Palace of Fine Arts. It is a favorite location for wedding pictures by the locals.
And if your are a Star Wars buff… look out also for the Letterman Digital Arts Center… home of Lucas Arts.
Finally we reach Golden Gate bridge! Park your car at Fort Point below the bridge and walk over if you don’t feel like driving over.
Just pass Baker Beach and you’ll arrive at California Palace of the Legion of Honor which is in Lincoln Park. The museum houses mainly European Arts.
The drive down Ocean Road is very easy as the traffic is very light. A must stop is Ocean Beach! It’s one of the prettiest in SF. And the view from the Cliff House (http://www.cliffhouse.com) restaurant is so gorgeous!
The last stop for this post is the San Francisco State University. See how many places you can see on the 49 mile drive? The next post I’ll round up the last few stops of the drive =)
