If you in the Hakone region and love to shop then drop by to the Gotemba Premium Outlet for some buys. It’s similar to those outlet malls in America with about 150 brand names in this outlet mall. However, be prepared to brave the crowds as many locals come here to shop as well. I saw a couple of nice discounted bags at Prada, Samantha Thavasa, Kate Spade and Paul Smith. And for clothes there were so much choices! From Banana Republic to Bcbgmaxazria toValentino to Alexander McQueen to Y’s and more! The list could go on forever. What I really liked there though were the Laura Ashley furnitures going at 50% off but it was just impractical for me to cart them home. Not much photos cause I don’t really remember to take photos when I shop.
And to answer one of my reader who posed me a question on outlet shopping in Japan. Well, it’s a little out of the way if you want to go there from Tokyo and whether or not you find the trip rewarding or if the items are good value for money depends a lot on luck and time of the season. But if you feel you want to take the chance, in Tokyo, you can take the Odakyu Main Line from Shinjuku Station to Shin-Matsuda Station, walk to nearby JR Matsuda Station, and take the JR Gotemba Line to Gotemba Station. From Gotemba Station use the free shuttle bus to the outlets. The whole trip one way is about 2 hours or so.
Chanced upon your blog while i am looking for Gotemba Premium Outlet. Was wondering if you think the deals are really that good? Am wondering if i shld visit there when i am at hakone. Thanks.
Hi Yan,
As it is with all outlet malls, what you get and how much discount it will be really varies from season to season.
