Java Detour

Singaporeans are blessed with choices and here’s a new alternative to Starbucks that you can consider trying! Java Detour Coffee and Tea Bar.

Nestled in a cosy corner at Marina Bay Sands Shopping Mall is a new offering of coffees and bites from San Francisco.

First and foremost, the coffee is hand picked, micro-batch roasted. 100% organic. Cafe Java Detour hand roasts all their coffee weekly and brew them daily so you are guaranteed a premium cup of coffee each time you are there. Java Detour produces some of the world’s best tasting coffees using a specialized micro batch roasting process that ensures the perfect balance between acidity, aroma, body and flavor. They have a impressive line of frozen drinks a new line of frozen blended cookie drinks that use premium Mrs. Fields cookies.

But there are many other things that also makes a cafe good and I was there to try out Java Detour and see if it made a good chilling out spot on a hot sunny Singaporean afternoon.

Here are my two accomplices for the day, Juliana and Grace! Together we ate up a storm even though it was supposed to be a tea session!

The mains on the menu are generally sandwiches and salads which was great cause I was really craving a good salad for tea. Haven’t been having enough fresh greens lately. My choice is a grilled chicken and apple salad which was very refreshing.

They also do the very same grilled chicken and apple salad in a sandwich if you rather have something a little more filling. This is not in the menu but apparently they can customize it! Below are the photos of the sandwich version which comes with bacon instead of grilled chicken.

Of the two sandwiches we ordered, I much preferred the smoke salmon and avocado sandwich. A wonderful sandwich that tastes good and packs a whole lot of Omega 3. Omega-3 fatty acid, an essential fatty acid the body needs but cannot produce, plays a vital role in brain function, controls blood clotting and helps reduce inflammation.

Sizes are quite generous so if you are stopping for a quick bite, good coffee and to use their free wifi to get some work done, this is probably a good place to stop by.

For those who wanna skip coffee but would like to visit Java Detour for the cosy ambience and understated vibes, you can rest assure that there are lots of non-coffee alternatives such as their 100% fruit smoothies or  Mighty Tea range. Mighty Leaf comes in a silken Tea Pouch filled with the world’s finest whole tea leaves, herbs, fruits and flavor too big for ordinary tea bags.

Dessert lovers are in for a treat as well. The cakes here are simply yummy! You should try out the Chocolate therapy cake and their Japanese cheesecake.

They also have macarons which seem to be wildly popular with everyone these days!

I was having a super sugar rich diet that day and didn’t want to overdose on sweets so I opted for the tiny macarons instead! There are way cuter and I can try all the colors in a bite just to taste the different flavours!

The mini macarons came in 4 colors and flavours. My favourite one is the green one which had a mint chocolate filling tasting like an after eight mint. Perfect tea snack! Below are 2 photos for size comparison so you can tell how adorably cute the mini macarons are.

Java Detour is a wonderful chilling out spot that gives a fresher feel than hangout at your local Starbucks filled with students. We chatted away for hours enjoying the food, drinks, natural filtered sunlight and good company. It a great place to check out if you want a cosy tea session away from the massive crowds or a quick business discussion over coffee and easy lunch.
