SIA Cup 2011

The Singapore Airlines International Cup is one of the most prestigious and anticipated international horse racing event at the Turf Club and I was excited to be invited to be a part of it all!

Above is a group short of my company for the evening and they were all really nice and just as excited as I was! We had fun discussing our betting strategies and being excited for each other wins. It seems that horse racing really is a social sporting event with the glamor, the excitement and the tension all heighten with great company!

There was so much going on all the time, there was hardly a dull moment. From stilt walkers to dancers and pretty turf belles, it was such a party! I was fascinated with the multitude of colors everywhere. The jockeys in the prominent designs were are glaring contrast with the backdrop of our very familiar Singapore Airline Girls in their Sarong Kabaya. If we needed a break from the non-stop action we could go the air con marquee with free flow of food and drinks to cool down before the next race!

Being on the green grass and viewing the horses up close at the Parade Ring was such a rush! The horses for the SIA Cup were specially flown in from all over the world and showcased a star studded line up of champion thoroughbreds.

The favorite that night is Singapore’s very own “Rocketman” and you could literally feel the nation united bonding as they cheered this horse for the win. The horse was already ready to sprint even at the parade ring and I’m glad to report that “Rocketman” has not let his fans down.

I got to watch the race at an up close distance together with local celebrities; buying our bets and mingling with them as we all learn more about the racing world.

Our president, S.R. Nathan was present for the race and was naturally the guest-of-honor for this spectacular event. All in all, it was a absolute sugar rush. I was invited to do a mini interview about the event for local new channels on behalf of the Turf Club but I was still sick and hadn’t recovered my voice that day so I felt that I wasn’t the best person for the job.

Heres’ a close up of my hair do and outfit that day.
