The famous saying by Marco Polo goes “shang you tian tang, xia you su hang”. Which translated means there is heaven in the skies and on earth there is Suzhou and Hangzhou. And I can understand why he felt so.
Hangzhou has so many natural beauty within walking distance of the city that I felt happy just randomly walking and exploring. It was such a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Shanghai city.
If you wanted to know exactly where I went in Hangzhou, I wouldn’t even know how to begin telling you about it because I didn’t know the names of half the places I visited. All I know was that they were all really pretty! Gorgeous little water falls, lakes, hills, bamboo forests in most of the little hikes I took.
Forget about the touristy attractions when in Hangzhou and just explore the nature that surrounds this beautiful place. The tranquility of Hangzhou has inspired generations upon generations of poets, philosophers and Emperors. Once the capital of the Southern Song dynasty, the magnificence of Hangzhou is still evident today. In 1276, Hangzhou was actually the largest city in the world!
Gorgeous scenery!! I took a day trip there once and can only do the Longjing tea plantation and West Lake. So I missed out on the waterfalls and bamboo forest. A pity. But I’ll be back there for more.
Thanks for your email on accomodation!
Ivy,
I didn’t finish a lot of Hangzhou either! Wish I had more time as well.

How’s the weather over at hangzhou? That’s the main place that I’m going next month
Jac,
The weather in Hangzhou now should be about 20C or so… not as cold as when I was there.
