Who, being loved, is poor?

I’m once again waking up really early to be a bridesmaid. The bridesmaid theme for this wedding was white with a dash of pink.

This time it’s for sweet Wendy and her loving husband Patrick.

Other than the few photos I took, I stole a good number of photos from Tracy’s and Wendy’s facebook. Thanks girls!

I was probably one of the earliest bridesmaid to arrive and Wendy was still getting prettily dolled up.

Next was to get her into her gorgeous wedding dress.

The delicate and pretty wrist cosages are handmade by Wendy herself! So sweet!

The girls spent the rest of that morning preparing the “special breakfast” of sour, sweet, bitter and spicy bread fillings for the groom and his brothers.

Breakfast might look appetizing but looks can be really deceiving!

Finally the groom and his men have arrived.

Now the gate-crashing games can start! In Chinese customs, the bridesmaids or jie mei troop is in charge of coming up with a series of challenges for the groom. This demonstrates the bride’s family unwillingness to let go of their precious daughter so easily and also shows the sincerity of the groom in securing the bride.

Patrick passes all the different challenges and proclaims his undying love for Wendy before swooping in to kiss his bride.

The bride and the bridesmaids….

The couple is now ready to head to Patrick’s home for tea ceremony.

I took the same car as Tracy, Abby and the very cheerful flower girl.

After the tea ceremony at Patrick’s family home. We returned to the hotel for tea ceremony with the bride’s side of the family. As with customs, Wendy had to change into her tea dress. We helped touch up her make up and get her in the beautiful red and black tea dress.

By lunchtime, the first part of the wedding was all done!

Patrick and Wendy very generously invited all of us for a sumptuous buffet lunch at the Hyatt hotel. It was an absolutely terrific spread of local delicacies.
