I have a lot of people asking me if my parents are rich or if I have a wealthy boyfriend. The thing is, it almost never occurs to them that I earn my own keep and have no need to rely on anyone. In fact I’ve been pretty independent since I was old enough to work! So here’s sharing a little about my personal philosophy towards my life.
Having a good foundation is essential to the sort of person you become. And by this, I do not mean money. I am referring to the values and belief.
While I am not against to those who have life made out for them from the moment they were born, I do feel that every single person has their own set of problems and in many cases, having gone through a period of struggle (especially when you are young) makes you a much stronger and much more adaptable person. You grow wiser and stronger with each hurdle that comes your way.
Most people who know me will tell you that I’m a cheerful person with not much problems or issues. But closer friends will know that I do have my own set of problems but I choose to handle them with a smile. Adversity comes to us all and if we can look past the blaming process and work on the solution, it would shorten the misery. Pain is inevitable but you have the power to stop the suffering.
I am not perfect but I’m still trying to be a better person everyday. To be motivated to make changes even when it is hard and to learn to accept and be contented with things that I cannot change. Turning my wounds into wisdom then using the wisdom I’ve accumulate to help those around me.
Friendships and family are important to me in a big way. I remind myself to always take the time to care for the people around me and to experience fully the present moment. Not to allow myself to put material goals in higher priority than people and feelings or worry about what the future holds. I do have a future plan but I tend to take things as they come. Should my plans for the future deviate, so be it. Life is a journey where the process really matters.
Don’t be afraid of hardship for they keep you grounded. And should life reward you with blessings, don’t be ashamed to enjoy it either. I ask not for lesser troubles in life but for a bigger heart so that I may be able to endure the pain and when the time comes, also be able to fill it fuller with joy.
Lastly, my blog title is derived from quote by Vincent Van Gogh that I still find inspirational:
Love is something eternal—the aspects may change, but not the essence. There is the same difference in a person before and after he is in love as there is in an unlighted lamp and one that is burning. The lamp was there and it is a good lamp, but now it is shedding light, too, and that is its real function.
